Technology Tournament 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t

The Club held its 2026 Technology Tournament on Monday 16 March at The Grange School, Aylesbury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students were asked to design a vehicle to clear rubble from a 2m pipeline. Each team was given a motor, batteries and construction materials to design and build their vehicle in 4hrs. They then had to demonstrate it to our judges, either clearing the rubble out of the way, or collecting it and bringing it back along the pipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced stages, great ingenuity was shown by the teams, which came from The Grange School, Aylesbury High School, John Colet School, The Cottesloe School and Aylesbury Grammar School<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were hosted again by The Grange School. Many thanks go to them and their brilliant team of Student Skippers, who helped the event to run smoothly. Aylesbury Mayor Cllr Nidhi Mehta presented the awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winners in Foundation were Aylesbury High School (who also won Best Portfolio, where they set out their ideas and planning); Intermediate winners were The Grange and Advanced was won by Aylesbury Grammar School. Congratulations to them all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dentaid Anniversary Presentation<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t

Dentaid Promotioinal Stall – 30 Year Celebration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dental charity DENTAID (https:\/\/www.dentaid.org\/<\/a>) is celebrating its 30th anniversary since it started providing dental kits and advice\/help to overseas countries.\u00a0 Our Club helped Dentaid with donations and a grant in conjunction with other Rotary Clubs to provide dental kits.\u00a0 In 2015 a Dentaid volunteer dentist began part time dental treatment in the UK for vulnerable people in the community who were unable to access dental care.\u00a0 Rotary, and our Club, has continued to support the development with fundraising and donations over the years, and on Saturday 28th March a promotional stall was set up in Aylesbury Market Square to publicise Dentaid\u2019s work in the community.\u00a0 Their mobile dental units have brought dentistry to all parts of the country with the support of their volunteer dentists and nurses.\u00a0 Their BrightBites program has brought oral health information to thousands of children, and they continue to support dentists overseas by providing equipment, sharing and providing skills, and helping them reach communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Dentaid\/BrightBites volunteer, and a retired volunteer dentist, shared valuable advice and information with a steady number of families coming to the stall, and it is hoped to sign up a local school for a BrighBites visit.\u00a0 There was a teeth model for children to show how they clean their teeth, and balloons and gifts were given out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Youth Speaks 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t

On Saturday 24 January we held our Rotary Club Youth Competition, Youth Speaks 2026.\u00a0 A brilliant Youth Event kindly hosted by Church of the Holy Spirit. Our winners were from Aylesbury High School, with their debate: Should social media be banned for <16s globally?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Chair of Judges, Laura Kyrke-Smith MP and her fellow judges chose our worthy winners from five competing teams, with topics also including That modern workplace culture is fundamentally biased in favour of men<\/em> and Failure teaches students more than success<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Young Chef 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t

We went a little early with Young Chef this time, holding our local heat on 22 November 2025. We were again hosted by The Kingsbrook School. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To a budget of \u00a312.00, students from secondary schools across Aylesbury prepared two course meals, including dishes such as Pan-fried cod loin with potato dauphinoise, Salmon in white wine sauce with couscous and Sri Lankan skewered chicken. Desert options included Raspberry compote with dark chocolate shavings, Poached pears and Brazilian carrot cake. All had to be completed in 2hrs<\/p>\n\n\n\n
